The Way of Water – A Deep Dive into Filming Underwater

Are you ready to dive into the world of Avatar? James Cameron’s highly acclaimed sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water, takes us back to the mesmerizing world of Pandora, and this time we’re going underwater.

TDI, SDI and PFI, leaders in scuba and freediving training, are proud to have supported the filming of this epic movie. And guess what? We’re giving you a behind-the-scenes look with this web series!

Behind-the-Scenes of Avatar: The Way of Water

The first webisode focuses on the stunt divers. We get to see the amazing choreography that goes into underwater stunts, as well as the use of underwater stunt rigs and creature piloting. And let’s not forget about the safety considerations that come with such a daring job.

The second webisode dives into the design and functionality of the tank used to film Avatar 2’s underwater scenes. We get to learn about grip and lighting considerations, special effects design, and performance capture underwater. This is a real deep dive into the technical side of things.

The third webisode explores the complex and challenging world of shooting underwater. From technical aspects to logistical considerations, we get to learn about all the work that goes into capturing those breathtaking shots we’ve come to expect from James Cameron’s movies.

And finally we wrap up the web series with a focus on safety. We’ll learn about the logistics and safety management that goes into filming underwater, as well as the role of dive supervisors and safety divers. After all, safety always comes first when diving.
