The section of the coast served by Waterhorse inlcudes Wreck Alley — perfect training ground for experienced SDI divers and TDI divers. Local wrecks include the Ruby E, El Rey, Ingraham St. Bridge, a Weather Tower, and most recently and probably best known, The Yukon. The Yukon is a 366 ft. Canadian destroyer sunk in July of 2000 especially for divers. All of these wrecks are in sand and open ocean.
The “Nods” (Coronados) are about an hour’s cruise away but offer terrific sport-level diving on a par with Caribbean destination. The Nods are actually in Mexican waters but no passport is necessary for US and Canadian divers. Most of the diving at the Nods is done on the lee side of the island so the water is protected from the oncoming swells. This makes for calmer and clearer waters. one of the huge attractions of this area are the Sea Lions and Harbor Seals so pack a camera!
