SDI Dive Centers and Members Take Note!
By: Steven Koedijk
SDI now has a 5-star dive center on the tropical paradise of Aruba!
Introducing: Pure Diving Aruba – Aruba’s Eco Dive Center
Welcome to Pure Diving Aruba, Aruba’s new eco-conscious dive center and the only SDI dive center on the island. We have a comfortable location away from the busy hotel areas, tucked away in the mangroves that line Aruba’s south coast, surrounded by nature. Our 42ft dive boat, Drumfish, leaves directly from here and is minutes away from famous dive sites like the Jane C wreck or the Sonesta Airplane wrecks. We carry a full line of rental equipment that we service and maintain ourselves. We also inspect, maintain and fill our own tanks.
Diving on Aruba
Aruba has some great reefs, especially along the south coast, that rival other well-known Caribbean diving destinations. One thing that Aruba has that is unlike these other destinations is over 10 (yes, 10!) wrecks within the recreational diving range. There are wrecks from WWII, like the German freighter Antilla, the third largest wreck in the Caribbean. But also two airplanes, a pilot boat, small oil transport and much more.
Diving on Aruba with Pure Diving Aruba
We like to adapt our schedule to avoid crowded sites, and prefer to dive the better-condition southern reefs. Drumfish has tank space for 16 divers, but we prefer to keep the number of divers on board to a maximum of 10. Entry is done off the back via giant stride from the swimming plateau that is only just above water level. The sturdy ladder there also makes for an easy exit.
Our crew is highly knowledgeable with years of experience diving the Aruban reefs. We have Dutch, American and local crew. Everyone speaks English, but Dutch, Spanish, and Papiamento are also spoken.
Next, to our daily diving activities, Pure Diving Aruba is the Aruba LionFish Initiative (ALFI) Headquarters. This foundation has a group of volunteers hunting the invasive Lionfish. The foundation then prepares the catch for sale to local restaurants, using the revenue to provide for free tank fills for volunteers and awareness campaigns. We teach the ALFI Hunter certification, which is needed to be a recognized ALFI volunteer. We have found getting ALFI certified and diving with the locals can be a memorable experience for visiting divers. They often won’t talk about anything else anymore!
Courses
Our instructors are able to teach SDI courses up to and including Divemaster. We teach most specialties, like Solo, Wreck, Deep and many more. For a full list, we refer you to our website. Be sure to check out our Tripadvisor reviews as well!
We are able to help with accommodation and transportation on the island.
Kind regards,
Pure Diving Aruba
