SDI/TDI/ERDI and Willis Insurance initiative is good news for divers too!

International Training, the parent company of SDI, TDI, ERDI, and Willis, Insurance recently introduced a general liability and product liability insurance program for recreational dive equipment manufacturers, but what does that have to do with the average diver? According to International Training’s president, Brian Carney, it could mean a lot.

“This is obviously great news for equipment manufacturers,” explained Carney, speaking from International Training’s Topsham office. “But the real winners in this move will most likely be sport and technical divers: the folks we work for.”

Carney went on to say that his company and the instructors and facilities it represents recognized that many manufacturers of state-of-the-art dive equipment were finding appropriate insurance a tough thing to find. “This challenge was holding some of these innovators back because they were unable to offer their products in certain markets, or it made getting R&D money more difficult.”

Carney said that although rebreather manufacturers were particularly venerable in this regard, the difficulty finding good coverage was affecting companies making everything from dive computers to wetsuits.

“We think that working with Willis to solve this shortcoming will mean better, safer and more technologically initiative equipment for every diver in coming decades. We lead the way in changing the way people dive and this move is simply part of our continuing effort to expand and support the dive industry”

Willis has offered International Training and its members the gold-standard in diving insurance coverage for many years. For more information regarding this insurance product and others, contact Willis Insurance at 1.800.665.5252 or via email at
