A Fresh Dive into Learning

Firstly, let’s talk about our recent expedition into the heart of scuba learning: the reinvention of our Open Water Scuba Diver certification coursework. We believe that becoming a better diver isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach. It’s about nurturing safer, more engaged protectors of our beloved blue planet. So, we threw on our wetsuits, grabbed our cameras, and dived headfirst into the task of creating educational content that is as engaging as it is enlightening.

Lights, Camera, Action! The Re-filming Adventure

We’ve always believed that if you’re going to do something, you might as well do it with style and a bit of fun thrown into the mix. That’s exactly what we did in the stunning waters of Playa del Carmen, Mexico, where we, along with our allies at Dressel Divers, re-filmed the entire Open Water Scuba Diver video series. It was a fusion of work and play—capturing over 4 terabytes of undersea majesty and new learning experiences in over hundreds of video clips.

Our team’s dedication might remind you of a tiny clownfish persistently tending to its anemone home, but don’t let our size fool you. This small company’s heart beats with the same vigor as a whale shark’s massive fins. We allocated a significant chunk of our resources to not just make do but excel in creating coursework that makes a difference. And guess who was at the helm? Our very own ambassadors, dive partners, and a crew that lives and breathes scuba diving—truly, it was a family affair. Rachel Pryke, William Drumm, and Jason Meany were behind the lens. SDI Ambassador Olaf Fischer , PFI Ambassador Rachel Novak and new SDI Divemaster’s Luca Konig and Lidia Kupczyk all helped with modeling and filming.

Injecting Fun into Fundamentals

Acknowledging that sometimes, you need to laugh to learn, we introduced a novel twist to our curriculum with a series of shorts demonstrating specific scuba skills. These aren’t your typical, dry instructional videos. Instead, they’re crafted to ensure that even as you master buoyancy or perfect your mask clearing, you’re having a blast.

New Videos, Who This? A Dive into the Content

Our new content isn’t just a treat for the eyes; it’s a buffet for the brain. We dove into everything from scuba equipment to the philosophical musings behind our sport. We dissected scuba physics (don’t worry, no calculators needed), reinforced safety protocols (because we like our divers in one piece), and waxed poetic about the love for our oceanic playground.

After the wrap-up underwater, our very own video wizards, Aaron Lazar and Daniel Valek, worked his post-production magic to piece together our vision. With cuts as sharp as a reef shark’s fin and a narrative flow as smooth as a manta’s glide, he turned raw footage into pure gold.
