How was your first dive?

I started diving during the COVID-19 pandemic. I was stuck indoors and unable to go out, so I decided to see what new experiences I could try. That’s when I discovered diving, and I found it to be an exciting new adventure.

What made you transition from sport diving to technical diving?

Through my recreational diving journey, I discovered my passion for depth. I found myself drawn to the mystery and serenity of deeper dives, which is why I’m now moving into technical diving to take my experience to the next level.

What type of technical diving do you enjoy the most, and what draws you to it?

I enjoy the technical aspects of diving—planning dives, handling multiple gases, and using advanced equipment. The ability to push beyond recreational limits and explore new environments is what draws me to it.

What do you consider when looking for technical diving training?

I look for a well-structured course that balances theory and practice, covering gas management, decompression planning, and emergency procedures. I also value real-dive scenarios to build confidence and problem-solving skills. That’s why I chose to do my technical diving courses with TDI.

Besides formal training, what other skills do you think are essential for technical diving?

Beyond training, strong buoyancy, trim, and situational awareness are crucial. Staying calm under pressure, problem-solving, fitness, and good team communication ensure safe, efficient dives.

What challenges have you faced as a woman in technical diving?

Technical diving presents unique challenges, such as building the physical strength and endurance needed for demanding dives. Developing confidence and mastering complex skills can also take time, but with the right training, mindset, and determination, these challenges can be overcome.

Why do you think technical diving is still a male-dominated sport?

It’s traditionally seen as physically demanding, and there are fewer female role models. But this is changing as more women enter and excel in the field.

What message or advice would you give to other women considering technical diving?

Skill and mindset matter more than gender. Trust yourself and don’t let stereotypes hold you back—if you love it, go for it.

What has been your most memorable dive so far?

One of my most memorable dives was my 131m depth dive—it was both a huge challenge and a major achievement, requiring precise planning, gas management and mental focus. My cave dives have also been unforgettable, pushing my skills in navigation, buoyancy control, and problem-solving in an overhead environment. Both experiences tested my limits and reinforced my passion for technical diving.

Have you faced any really difficult moments while technical diving? How did you overcome them?

Yes, I’ve faced challenges like equipment failure and strong currents. Staying calm, trusting my training and following proper procedures allowed me to handle the situation safely. Technical diving installs a problem-solving mindset, which is key to overcoming difficulties.

What are your next goals in technical diving?

My next goals in technical diving include advancing my skills in deeper dives, improving my cave diving techniques, and possibly training for CCR (closed-circuit rebreather) diving. I want to push my limits safely while continuing to explore new and challenging underwater environments.

What qualities do you look for in a great technical dive buddy?

A great technical dive buddy is someone who is skilled, reliable, and has strong situational awareness. Good communication, both underwater and during dive planning, is essential. I also value a calm and problem-solving mindset, as well as trust and teamwork—knowing that we can rely on each other in any situation makes technical diving safer and more enjoyable.
