Christy Campbell: SDI Instructor Trainer Ambassador

Hi, I’m Christy Campbell. I’m honored to be a part of the SDI Instructor Ambassador Program. I’m from Stuart, Florida where I own Stuart Scuba Dive Center.

What was the first dive you did and how did it influence you to start a career in the diving industry?

My first dive was very uneventful and many years ago in Mission Bay, California. Where I became motivated to dive again was almost a decade later in Hawaii with a group of underwater photographers. I just seemed to blend right in with the experienced divers. That trip to Maui is where I found myself assisting the professional photographers while they were on a photo expedition.

What do you believe is the most important trait of a professional educator and why?

The commitment to teaching excellence with genuine caring and integrity. Always keeping in mind you’re the example your students and colleagues see.

What is your favorite SDI class to teach and why?

SDI Advanced Adventure. This course is where I start to identify divers that show long term commitment to being extraordinary. Long term divers that will invest time to acquire a very high capacity skill set, besides its great fun for the students and me.

What is a bucket list dive you still have?

Chuuk Lagoon, Micronesia

What is one bit of advice you would give to a perspective Instructor candidate about to embark on becoming an SDI Instructor?

Remember to always be open-minded. If you keep this in mind you will learn from both your instructors and your peers.
