Jeffrey Bozanic is a technical diving instructor and research scientist. Based in southern California, Jeff is the President of Next Generation Services, where he provides consulting and training services in the diving market. Clients include rebreather manufacturers, training agencies, and legal agencies. Specializing in rebreather use, he is probably best known for his seminal textbook on the topic, Mastering Rebreathers.
As a marine scientist, Jeff has participated or lead over 60 diving expeditions during the past 40 years, to places like Palau, Canary Islands, Clipperton Island, and Mexico. Jeff’s scientific diving began in 1978, when he was working on his thesis for his degree in geology at Humboldt State University. He spent a year dredging for gold in the Trinity Alps in California, later analyzing the settling velocity of alluvial gold particles. From 1989-1992 he oversaw scientific diving operations in Antarctica as part of the U.S. Antarctic Program, including co-authoring the Antarctic Scientific Diving Manual. He specializes in studying extreme environments, including submerged caves, under ice, and deep diving.
He has published extensively on diving education topics, with heavy emphasis on diving safety. Jeff is the author of Mastering Rebreathers, and recently completed editing the 6th Edition of the NOAA Diving Manual. He serves on TDI’s Technical Advisory Panel Committee, assisting with review of dive procedures and standards for both SDI and TDI. Jeff has served on several Boards of Directors in the diving community, including as Chairman of the NSS-CDS and as Vice Chairman of NAUI, and as Treasurer on the AAUS Board. He has received the TDI Dive Professional of the Year, NAUI Outstanding and Continuing Service Awards; the Silver Wakulla, Abe Davis, Henry Nicholson, and International Cave Diving Awards for safe cave diving; the SSI Platinum Pro 5000 Award, and is a NAUI Hall of Honor inductee. In 2007 he was honored as the DAN/Rolex Diver of the Year.
Jeff holds an MBA in International Marketing, a Ph.D. in Education, and spent another three years in Ph.D. level studies in marine geochemistry. His contributions to underwater sciences were recognized by the American Academy of Underwater Sciences’ Conrad Limbaugh Award for Scientific Diving Leadership in 2015.
