Date of Birth Removed from eLearning Assignment Process

Attention SDI Members and Dive Center Owners, our mission is to help you grow your business and expand our One Dive Family. To make that happen, we’re simplifying how new divers connect with you during the course signup process.

We are excited to announce that we have removed the “Date of Birth” requirement from the eLearning code assignment process on the SDI website portal. After reviewing performance data, we found that this small change can lead up to a 20% increase in new customer sign-ups.

The extra step of entering a Date of Birth often caused hesitation and required unnecessary explanations—slowing down your sales funnel. By removing this obstacle upfront and allowing them to enter their more personal data later from the comfort of their own home, we are creating a smoother, faster path for potential divers to join your programs and start their underwater journey.

This update means fewer barriers, more engagement, and greater efficiency for your business. It is another example of SDI’s commitment to continuous improvement, helping you convert more leads, enhance customer experience, and grow your community of divers.

Not sure i have ever experiencef any hesitation. But we have to have it to determine jr open water status and class numbers according to rstc srandards.

Unfortunate. I sign my Open Water students up for student dive insurance prior to the start of class, and DOB is necessary to do that. If students have the option of not providing this, then I have to get it from them individually before class (and they don’t always get back to me on this).

Also, on occasion I’ve found that I had a minor or even a 10- or 11-year old in a class, which is helpful to know ahead of time, especially if there is more than one very young student signed up for my class.
