SDI Scubility Surface Buddy Diver Program

The SDI Scubility Surface Buddy Diver Program is designed to provide suitably qualified surface assistants for the physically disabled diver.

Who this course is for:

  • The individual who wishes to become acquainted with techniques and qualified to assist individuals with physical disabilities to suit up with their scuba equipment as well as enter and exit the water

Course prerequisites:

  • Minimum age 18/ 16 with parental consent
  • Demonstrate comfort and adequate swimming skills

Some of the required skills you will have to demonstrate include:

  • Equipment assembly/disassembly and adjustment
  • Weight system assembly/adjustment with proper weighting
  • Suiting up and de-suiting
  • Dive check of buddy
  • Use of mask, fins and snorkel
  • Entries
  • Equipment – Suiting-up of diver in the water
  • Equipment removal in the water
  • Exits
  • Tired diver tows
  • Surface communication, assistance
  • Dive planning – help with use of personal dive computer (PDC) and logging of dives
